When to seek reassessment

Some problems eventually require surgical treatment, particularly a locked knee, complete ligament injury with instability, or ongoing mechanical symptoms despite a well-completed rehabilitation programme.

Contact the practice promptly if you develop:

  • Sudden locking of the knee
  • A major increase in swelling after minor activity
  • Severe pain preventing weight-bearing
  • Giving way that is becoming more frequent
  • Unexpected deterioration rather than gradual improvement
