Gluteal tendon tears
The gluteal tendons connect the buttock muscles to the outer side of the hip. They help keep the pelvis level when walking. A tear may develop gradually or follow an injury.
Typical symptoms are pain over the outside of the hip, difficulty lying on that side, weakness and a limp. Most cases are initially treated with targeted physiotherapy, load modification and pain relief. Persistent, significant tears may occasionally require surgical repair.
