Iliopsoas tendonitis

The iliopsoas tendon passes across the front of the hip and helps lift the leg. Irritation can cause groin pain when climbing stairs, rising from a chair, getting into a car or lifting the leg.

It may occur without previous surgery or sometimes after hip replacement if the tendon rubs against the front of the implant. Treatment commonly begins with activity modification, physiotherapy, medication and an image-guided injection. Persistent symptoms after hip replacement may be treated with iliopsoas tendon release or, in selected cases, revision of the hip replacement.
