Can I drive in a sling, cast or brace?
A sling restricts steering, gear changes and emergency reactions. Most patients should not drive while they are required to wear one.
A cast or brace affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, knee, ankle or right foot may also prevent safe control. Using the left foot for the accelerator and brake is not considered a safe substitute when the right leg cannot be used normally.
Wait until the device is no longer required for driving and you have regained adequate strength, movement and control. Driving while impaired can affect both legal responsibility and insurance cover.
