When can I return to work?

Return to work depends on the operation, your recovery and the physical demands of the role. A desk-based job may be possible well before heavy work involving lifting, climbing, kneeling or prolonged walking.

For example, after simple knee surgery, office work may be possible after 1–2 weeks, while heavy manual work can require 8–12 weeks. Joint replacement, ligament reconstruction and tendon repair have their own restrictions.

Angus can provide an ACC, insurer or general medical certificate describing suitable restrictions. A staged return, reduced hours or modified duties may be helpful. Keep your employer informed and do not progress beyond the advised limits simply because pain has improved.
