Day stay or overnight

Some procedures are completed as day surgery, while joint replacement and more complex operations usually require one or more nights in hospital. Your planned stay will be discussed before the operation, but discharge ultimately depends on your recovery and safety.

Before you leave, staff will check that pain and nausea are controlled, you can eat and drink as appropriate, pass urine, move safely and use any crutches, sling or brace required.
