Hospital and early mobility

Hip replacement may be performed under spinal or general anaesthesia. Physiotherapy and walking usually begin within 24 hours. Many patients remain in hospital for one or two days, depending on their health, mobility and home support.

By discharge, you should be able to walk short distances using crutches or another aid. Increase the frequency and distance of walks gradually, avoid uneven ground and include regular rest periods.
