Shoulder Rehabilitation

After SLAP repair

Focused information to help you understand this topic and the next steps.

After SLAP repair

A sling protects the repaired labrum during early healing. Shoulder movement is introduced within specific limits, and force through the biceps attachment is avoided.

Resisted elbow bending, heavy lifting and forceful overhead activity are delayed until the repair is secure. Later rehabilitation restores shoulder strength, control and, where relevant, throwing or overhead technique.

Typical progression

  • Early phase: sling protection and controlled assisted movement
  • Around 6 weeks onward: gradual active movement and light strengthening when cleared
  • Following months: progressive overhead and functional training
  • Return to contact or throwing sport: only after strength and control milestones are achieved
